"When people make a buying choice they are casting a ballot for the type of food system they want. That sends a tremendously powerful message back to rural America about what sort of farming is valued."
— LSP member-farmer Tom Frantzen

The Land Stewardship Project's Community Based Food and Economic Development Program recognizes that systems based on family farms that use sustainable methods to produce for local and regional markets can revitalize our communities economically and environmentally while improving eaters' diets. LSP is working in four main geographic locations to develop strong regional food systems:

  • Western Prairie (southwest and west-central Minnesota)
  • Driftless Area (southeast Minnesota, southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa)
  • St. Croix River Valley (Minnesota and Wisconsin communities on both sides of the river)
  • Twin Cities Urban (the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul region)

We are working with farmers, processors, retailers, institutions, restaurant owners and eaters to create a food and farming system that is good for the land and the people.
