ST. PAUL, Minn.-"Branding Your Beliefs" seminars for
farmers who want to direct market their livestock products will be
held April 26 and May 3 in St. Paul.
"Branding
Your Beliefs" is a curriculum developed by Lorentz Meats, a Cannon
Falls, Minn., business which is a member of the Land Stewardship Project.
Lorentz developed the curriculum in cooperation with Land O' Lakes,
and with funding from the USDA's Fund for Rural America. The intent
of the program is to teach livestock producers how to market their
products directly to consumers from the farm.
For $100
up to three people from one farm can attend these classes on Saturday,
April 26 and Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Minnesota
Department of Agriculture Building, 90 West Plato Blvd., St. Paul,
MN 55107.
While
the seminar has a focus on meat processing, the techniques and ideas
that are presented can be used on all aspects of food products.
There
are four parts to the seminar:
Part
1: Preparing For Your Success-Overview of opportunities and obstacles
based upon material from parts two, three and four.
Part
2: Pulling Together Your Team-Assembling a winning combination
from among family members, peers, and meat processor, legal, marketing,
and financial professionals.
Part
3: Developing Your Customer Base-Market development including
customer relations, outreach marketing, order management, and new
product development.
Part
4 - Multiplying Your Impact-Working with others to expand opportunities
through co-ventures, farmers' markets, group contracting, cooperatives
and other structures.
This
seminar was developed by Lorentz Meats, Land O' Lakes, The Sustainable
Farming Association of Minnesota, and The University of Minnesota.
Mike Lorentz of Lorentz Meats is teaching this "Branding Your
Beliefs" seminar. However, that does not mean you must work with
Lorentz Meats to take advantage of this learning opportunity. This
is an instructive seminar that is designed to educate on the aspects
of direct marketing.
