ROCKLAND, Wis. — A field day on raising and marketing vegetables on a small number of acres will be Saturday, May 2, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Sweet Ridge Farm in Rockland (W692 HWY 33, Rockland, WI 54653). This event, which is sponsored by the Land Stewardship Project’s Farm Beginnings program, is free and open to the public. Please pre-register before April 25  by calling Parker Forsell at 507-523-3366.

Sweet Ridge Farm works with permaculture and bio-intensive growing techniques to produce vegetables on five acres for wholesale and direct-to-consumer markets. This workshop is designed to help participants learn how one family makes a portion of their livelihood on five acres. Covered during the field day will be:

  • What vegetable crops are profitable to grow on a small scale.
  • Bio-intensive and permaculture techniques.
  • Wholesale versus direct-to-consumer sales.
  • The role of livestock.

A tour of the Sweet Ridge gardens will help participants understand how the farm splits its workload between mechanical and hand power.

This field day is free of charge as a result of support from Organic Valley.

A pdf copy of the field day flier can be downloaded here.
