Two special informational meetings on the newly revamped Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) will be held in the Minnesota communities of New Ulm and Stewartville in late August. The New Ulm meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Holiday Inn, 2101 S. Broadway. The Stewartville meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 27, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the American Legion #164, 1100 2nd Ave. NW. There is no charge for these meetings. To register or for more information, contact the Land Stewardship Project’s Adam Warthesen at 612-722-6377 or adamw@landstewardshipproject.org.
These meetings are for farmers who are interested in learning more about how CSP can help them get rewarded for maintaining and improving conservation on their operations. Information will be available on how to get started in the sign-up process. The first-ever national sign-up for the new CSP runs until Sept. 30.
Originally called the Conservation Security Program, the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) is a voluntary working lands conservation program. It represents a new approach to how our nation supports farmers and ranchers by placing emphasis on positive conservation outcomes produced by both new and existing stewardship practices.
The new CSP is available to all agricultural producers, regardless of where they live or what they are producing. With a substantial increase in program funding—$12 billion over the next 10 years—and with the goal to enroll nearly 13 million acres per year, the new CSP has the opportunity to have a much greater impact on the land and in our communities. This is particularly true in light of the fact that since 2004 CSP has enrolled only 20 million acres in total.

The New Ulm and Stewartville CSP meetings are sponsored by the Land Stewardship Project, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Minnesota Farmers Union, Sustainable Farming Association of Minnesota, Minnesota National Farmers Organization, Clean Up the River Environment and the Izaak Walton League.
